The Form of the Good is to knowledge what the sun is to sight and the objects that we see. Plato would be the inspiration for many future philosophers, most notably, his student Aristotle.
Plato and Aristotle have opposing and different perspectives on nature and its relation to the state. This is important to Aristotle's thesis because these choices are applied to virtue. Furthermore, Aristotle argued that although we do not have an immortal soul, like Plato claimed, we do have reason and can use our reason to control our feelings and actions.
Plato and Aristotle are two such philosophers who had ideas of how to improve existing societies during their individual lifetimes. However, the thesis cannot be understood without an understanding of what exactly a disposition is. The philosopher must be king because the ruler of an ideal state must know what is best for the people, what is best is overall happiness of the city which is achieved through justice, therefore, he must know justice and if one is to know justice he must obviously be a lover of learning.
He first states that the ruler of the ideal state must be a philosopher king Republic, d.
The notion that every citizen can participate in judging laws also assumes that every citizen knows the essence of justice, because every law in the ideal state is a reflection of that essence. Plato states first that the polis comes into being because no person is completely self-sufficient Republic, b.
However, he also challenged them, introducing his own metaphysical ideas such as act and potency, hylemorphism, and the four causes.
If Plato accepts that all states are natural as stated by Aristotle, then he must accept that all states are also just according to his definition of justice.
In conclusion, Plato's ideal state is constructed from the deeper non-realistic perspective while Aristotle comes to his conclusions regarding politics and states through observation of existing states and forms of government. It is not considered virtuous to drink and drive, meaning that a bad character trait is expressed by a drunk driver.
